Since introducing Circles of Support and Accountability (CoSA) to Quebec in 2000, Communitas has accompanied dozens of men using the Circle model, to the considerable benefit of all, those being accompanied in their safe reintegration, volunteers, and our larger community.
Under the name of MSCM CoSA Project, we participated in a five-year nation-wide Demonstration Project from 2009 to 2014, along with providers in other major centres, coordinated by the Church Council for Justice and Corrections (CCJC) and funded by the National Crime Prevention Centre (NCPC) of Public Safety Canada. The purpose of this national exercise is to demonstrate the effectiveness of CoSA in significantly lowering the risk of recidivism in those thought to be at high risk by accompanying them and assisting their safe reintegration in the community.
A trailer for the information video on CoSA which we have produced, One of Us/L’un des nôtres, is accessible for viewing on this website. Please take a few minutes to watch it and draw some impressions of CoSA from both core members and volunteers, and from a public safety/community perspective. Please contact Peter if you wish to have a copy of the complete film on DVD.
